At Beneva, we believe the beauty of our flowers is only matched by the people who help bring them to life. While stunning arrangements may be what you see, there’s a dedicated team behind the scenes making it all happen with early mornings, creative minds, and a whole lot of heart. Get to know a little more about the people behind the petals and what makes our Beneva family so special.
This month, we’re excited to shine the spotlight on one of the incredible individuals who keeps our shop running smoothly: Glynn Lewis.
Beneva’s Processing Manager, Glynn Lewis
What is your role at Beneva, and what is your favorite part of the job?
My role at Beneva is Processing Manager. My favorite part of the job is working with a great team of expert individuals who all strive to produce a high-quality finished product. I feel extremely lucky and grateful to be part of the Beneva team.
How did you get started in the floral industry?
A year ago, as a resident of Project 180, I met David Shuel. Not even a week into the program, David personally reached out to offer me a position at Beneva. I wasn’t familiar with the floral industry at the time, but I had a strong desire to learn and grow. Since then, he has been a mentor, a positive role model, and a true friend.
If you could design a bouquet to match your personality, what would be in it?
If I could design an arrangement just for me, it would be filled with my favorite flowers—those with supporting roles that also have the ability to shine on their own. I love colors that evoke happiness and peace, like green Dianthus, purple Wax Flower, white Stock, green Button Mums, and yellow Alstroemeria.
What’s one thing about working in a flower shop that people might be surprised to learn?
Something people might be surprised to learn is that before the sun even rises, we’re already bringing the shop to life here at Beneva. It’s not just a flower shop—every department here is dedicated to customer satisfaction, from the moment the doors open to the last arrangement that goes out the door each day.
What’s your favorite local spot to grab lunch or coffee on a break?
My current local favorite spot? It has to be the new bagel shop next door, Bagels and Brews!
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
If I could travel anywhere, I’d choose Istanbul. I’ve made many Turkish friends here in Sarasota, and they’ve all been genuinely kind. Their culture seems so rich and fascinating—I’d love to experience it one day, 100%!
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received (floral or otherwise)?
The best advice I ever received came from my grandmother. She told me, “In life, don’t ever let anything outdo you. Sometimes, you just have to be an engineer.” That’s always stuck with me.
